No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were:
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
Hold that thought. From the President of Montclair State University, best said in the words of John Donne, I applaud you..
We are all diminished by the loss of any one of us, and so we must try not to lose each other. And we must try to be worthy of each other. When we look around this room, what each of us should see is all those who are relying on us. It’s nice if we like each other, but it is not necessary and it’s not the point. The point is the greater good.
This University is the world in which we have chosen to work, and we do so for our students, we do so to repair the world, and we do so to protect earth.
No man is an island
Entire of itself…
Any man’s death diminishes me
Because I am involved in mankind…
When we leave this place, the bells in College Hall will be ringing. Do not send to ask for whom those bells toll. I will tell you. They toll for us, not mournfully, but in hope, reminding us of the chance we have to make a difference for the greater good, if we just remember to seek the best in ourselves and in others. Thank you all for your extraordinary work this year. Let’s bring this academic year successfully to a smooth landing, so we can re-fuel and get this space ship ready to take off again.
When I look at my mom it reminds me why people say we look alike
When I look at my cousins I see the resemblance people recognize
Homage to my eyes
Never really paid attention to them until I wore color contacts
Never paid attention to anyone else’s until I saw mine in them
Homage to my eyes
ANGER is only one letter away from DANGER
Anger and frustration while thoughts racing, can push the potential to motivate my goals into existence or become dangerous. When the past is done, it is what it was.
What we do today determines what will happen tomorrow..
America’s Great When
America’s great when
We come together and stand as one
In all different hues
With the same amusement
The same smile and laughter
No one looking down
Americas great when
Christians, Muslims, and Jews or whoever
Live on the same street without war
Their kids play together
Teaching each other different languages
Unfamiliar families praying together
Americas great when
People can actually pay their bills comfortably
Thanking God that their prayers have been answered
Lines crossing, merging with empathy
In crowded noise moving constantly
Someone notices your lip ring
All the dirt sticks to the hair in my nose
So it don’t go back in
That filthy film that tastes so nasty
After smoking in the morning
Or soon as you woke up
Is so refreshing when my skin dries
It’s just amazing how our mind
Communicate with our bodies
And our hearts beat as one
One day we’ll see our true face
And will know who we are……
A million tongues couldn’t describe
These tears pouring from my heart
Still walking around looking at the ground
So no one will see the fear in my eyes
Managing the unmanageable
After a psychotic manic distressing depressive episode
Hurting the feelings of those dearest to my heart
With confusion, mistrust, misdirected anger, and lust
I put my body at risk, my relationships in jeopardy
Sabotaging every bit of love I can think of
Instead of caring for those who care for me
I put it all at risk; and begged Satan to take me out of here
Instead; God saw fit for me to get the help I need
Placing me in the care of professionals who are competent when I’m not
Even the strongest people have weak moments
The loveliest people can be beautiful and ugly at the same time
Underneath the insanity, the appealing character and funny jokes
There’s a sense of darkness where reality peaks
Enticing the perfectionist to create a fix where nothing is broke
